rememBurbank: Episode 15: Our Library’s History

Carolyn Alves created and hosted this delightful audio journey through the history of the Burbank Public Library, with recording and editing by Marcos Alves and funding from the Friends of the Burbank Public Library.

Learn about Burbank’s leadership role in implementing multimedia technology, and find out about the cannonball collection! In addition to narration, it directs the listeners to digital images from that history, and features a written transcript for accessibility. A prime example of the use of podcasting for telling the story of a library and helping patrons value a library’s past, present, and future.

The Long Island History Project: The Carnegie Library of Patchogue

LHRT member Chris Kretz coordinated the production of this beautifully-told story about one of the only Carnegie libraries on Long Island, New York. The story seamlessly integrates primary source quotations, interviews with librarians, and a talk with a local historian. Supplemental photos and further reading resources are also featured on the page. This is a splendid example of a history that is engaging as well as well-documented, and makes great use of a digital platform.
