Exhibit 8: Typing Room Sign, Hanley Library, University of Pittsburgh Bradford

Kimberly M. Bailey, Reference/Instruction Librarian, sent LHRT this photo of a typing room sign posted near her office at the Hanley Library at the University of Pittsburgh Bradford.  She reports that “that the room is now used for our Friends of Hanley Library book sale books, but the sign was never taken down.”

Library historians love it when libraries leave up these reminders of our past! Larry Nix offer more details on typewriters in libraries.

As a bonus, Kimberly also sent us these photos of microfilm machines, which are becoming harder to find in libraries. She explains: “Yes, the cabinets still have microfilm in them!  They haven’t had much use in the last ten years, but they are still available.”
